This week, Year 5 have continued to work hard across all subjects and have shown great focus and determination in their learning.
➗ Maths
We have now completed our unit on shape. The children have developed their understanding of angles within shapes, practised measuring lengths of sides, and explored 3D shapes and their properties. Their confidence in using mathematical vocabulary has really improved.
✍️ English
In English, we have written detailed diary entries from the perspective of Fred, the main character in The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. The children showed excellent empathy and imagination in their writing. We have also been planning diary entries for Con, ready to write next week.
🧬 Science
Our focus in Science has been on life cycles. We have explored the different stages in the life cycles of butterflies, frogs and birds, identifying the similarities and differences between them. The children enjoyed discussing how each life cycle is adapted to suit the animal's habitat.
🌳 Geography
In Geography, we have been learning about the layers of the rainforest. The class have worked hard to identify the features of the emergent layer, canopy, understorey, and forest floor, and understand how animals and plants are adapted to each part.
Well done to Year 5 for another productive and thoughtful week of learning.
Have a great weekend, Mr Thompson and Mrs Dickinson!
