What another busy and exciting week we have had in Year 1! The children have worked incredibly hard and enjoyed lots of different learning experiences.
In English this week, Professor Klunk sent us the story The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like the Water. We were very surprised to discover that the main character wasn’t a crocodile after all... he was a dragon! The children came up with some fantastic ideas for what the dragon might buy with his pocket money. They also used their wonderful imaginations to invent things that could help him when he accidentally set fire to his tail!
In Maths, we have been exploring number bonds to 10. The children enjoyed using Numicon and counters to investigate all the different ways we can make 10. They also had a go at playing Hit the Button, practising their number bonds in a fun and speedy way. This is a great game for the children to continue playing at home for some extra practice.
In Science, we have been learning about hibernation. The children explored what the word means, discovered which animals hibernate and learned why some animals need to hibernate during the colder months.
The children brought together everything they have learned about Standish to answer our enquiry question: ‘What is there to do and enjoy in Standish?’ They did a fantastic job of using all the knowledge they have gained throughout our topic.
In Computing, we have been learning about staying safe online. The children thought carefully about how we can use technology safely and came up with some important rules to help keep us safe when using computers and other technology both at home and at school.
In PE, the children continued developing their defending and tricking skills while practising underarm throwing. They had lots of fun putting their skills into action using quoits, beanbags and shuttlecocks.
We had a very special visitor in RE this week! Rector Andrew joined us and answered the children’s questions about why Christians call God ‘Father’ and how Christians pray. The children listened brilliantly and enjoyed having the opportunity to ask their own questions.
This week, we thought about the many different choices we make throughout the day. The children discussed which choices are good choices and explored how the decisions we make can affect both ourselves and others.
At Forest School, the children had a wonderful time using their imaginations. They enjoyed playing pretend games, building dens and working together with their friends. Some children also had a go at making their very own conker mobiles, getting creative with the natural materials around them.
Have a lovely weekend!
