We’ve had another lovely week in Reception, with lots of exciting learning and exploring taking place!

In Maths, we have been focusing on the numbers 1, 2 and 3. The children have been practising finding, subitising and representing these numbers in different ways. We have used practical resources to help us recognise small amounts without needing to count each object individually.

Our Drawing Club story this week was Peace at Last by Jill Murphy. The children really enjoyed following Mr Bear as he tried to find somewhere peaceful to sleep! We used the story to inspire our imaginations, designing some fantastic sleep machines to help Mr Bear get a good night’s sleep.

We have been exploring day and night. We talked about the differences between daytime and night-time and investigated different sources of light that help us to see when it is dark. We also explored shadows, discovering what happens when something blocks the light. We found out about nocturnal animals and talked about some of the animals that are awake and active during the night.

To link with our learning about nocturnal animals, we focused particularly on hedgehogs. The children enjoyed taking part in some hedgehog-themed craft activities, getting creative and making their own hedgehog creations.

It has been a busy and enjoyable week full of exploring, investigating, creating and learning together!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team 🍂😊
