What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 2!

In Maths, we have been working hard on our number skills. We have been looking at number bonds to 100 and practising adding and subtracting ones. We have also been adding numbers by making 10 to help us solve calculations more efficiently.

In English, we have been developing our descriptive writing. We started by creating noun phrases which we then used in our setting descriptions to describe Katie, Jack and the lion as they walked past the gates of Buckingham Palace. We then selected a sentence to redraft and improve before exploring the thoughts and feelings of the lion as he sat by the lake after a long and exciting day. The children worked hard to use interesting vocabulary and show how the lion was feeling.

In History, we learned about Queen Victoria and her many achievements. We explored why Queen Victoria is considered a significant individual and discussed the impact she had on Britain during her reign.

In DT, we began making our bags for Paddington. The children had lots of fun learning how to sew and showed great determination while creating their cross body and bum bags. We cannot wait to finish them, so Paddington has somewhere safe to carry his marmalade sandwiches!

As part of our work for Black History Month, we learned about Rosa Parks and the impact her actions have had on society today. The children were very thoughtful during our discussions and were pleased that Rosa Parks stood up for what was right and fair. We talked about how her bravery helped make positive changes for many people.

In Computing, we have been exploring the Digital 5 A Day and discussing how we can have a healthy balance when using technology. We thought about what we need to do for each part, such as getting active and not spending too long on a computer or device. We have also been learning how to use information technology safely and discussed the important rules we should follow to keep ourselves safe online.

All children have a login for Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars, which is stuck inside the front cover of their reading record. Both can be accessed on a computer through the website or by downloading the app on a tablet or mobile device.

These are fantastic resources that we hope the children will enjoy using at home. Numbots helps children develop their number bonds, addition and subtraction fluency, while Times Tables Rock Stars supports children in learning and recalling multiplication and division facts quickly and confidently. On Times Tables Rock Stars, we would recommend playing 'garage.'

If you need another copy of your child's login details, please let us know and we will be happy to provide one.

We are very proud of all the hard work the children have shown this week and look forward to another exciting week of learning! 🌟

Have a lovely weekend
