Year 4 Weekly Round-Up – A Roman Adventure!

What a fantastic week we've had in Year 4! From deep dives into Bran’s emotions to marching like Roman soldiers, it’s been a week full of learning, laughter and discovery.

English
This week in English, we’ve been exploring how Bran felt during the Brigante attack. Using an emotions graph, the children carefully tracked his feelings through the different stages of the story. It’s been a brilliant way to understand character development and really step into Bran’s shoes. The children showed great empathy and insight into how events can shape our emotions.

Maths
We’ve now finished our topic on decimals. The children have been learning how to round decimals to the nearest whole number and deepen their understanding of common fractions—1/2, 1/4 and 3/4—as decimals. Everyone has worked really hard and shown great progress. We’re now ready to dive into our next exciting topic: money!

History
In History, we explored continuity and change during the Roman invasion of Britain. The children learnt all about how the Romans “Romanised” Britain—introducing new ways of life—while also recognising the aspects of British life that remained unchanged. It sparked some excellent discussions about culture and identity.

Science
Inn Science, we explored the different parts of the ear and how sound travels through it. The children were fascinated by the journey sound takes from the outer ear to the brain and asked some brilliant questions to deepen their understanding.

Roman School Trip
Thursday was a day to remember! Our Roman school trip was a brilliant experience from start to finish. The children loved stepping into the sandals of Roman soldiers—shields in hand, they learned Latin commands, practiced Roman formations and truly immersed themselves in the Roman way of life. It was wonderful to see their excitement and enthusiasm shine through as they marched, trained, and explored history in such an interactive way.

Times Tables Focus
With the Times Tables Check coming up soon, we’ve been stepping up our practice. Times tables are a huge focus at the moment and we’re encouraging all children to keep practising regularly at home to build confidence and fluency.

Homework
This week’s homework includes a Carousel quiz on DT (Spotlights), spellings, and of course, lots and lots of times tables practice. Every bit helps as we prepare for the weeks ahead!

We hope you all have a lovely and restful weekend!
