It has been another busy but exciting week in Year 2!

In English, we have continued reading our class text, The Boy who Grew Dragons. We read several chapters across the week and have taken part in lots of discussion about vocabulary, characters and our impressions of these characters. Later in the week, we explored thoughts and feelings using an emotions graph and learned about ‘show not tell’, choosing vocabulary carefully to help describe characters more effectively.

In Maths, we have continued our learning on fractions. We learned to recognise and find three quarters, recognised equivalence, and practised counting in fractions. We used practical methods and visuals to support their understanding and grew more confident explaining their thinking.

In Science, we learned about the life cycle of a plant. We watched a video which showed how the plant went through each of the stages in its lifecycle before becoming a mature plant. We also focused on the word lifecycle, understanding what it meant and linking it to different contexts e.g. the lifecycle of a human.

In Geography, we have continued to learn about Cape Town. This week we focused on the human features that can be found there. The children identified different human features and were able to recall facts about these features. We then made comparisons between the human features in Cape Town and London.

Following everything we have learnt so far about Picasso, the children completed focused practical tasks this week. After drawing some of the facial features in the style of Picasso, the children then completed a design for their final piece, which we will be creating next week!

In PE this week, the children had a fantastic time learning how to strike a ball using racquets. We began with a fun warm-up where the children explored what they could do with a ball and a bat. They took part in a series of exciting challenges, practising control and trying out different ways to move and balance the ball. After warming up, the children worked in pairs to develop their hitting and catching skills. They showed great teamwork, encouraging one another and trying hard to improve their accuracy.

In Music, Year 2 children have been exploring the term call and response. They enjoyed learning how one singer or group leads with a musical “call” and others reply with a “response”. The children practised this by singing fun songs such as Boom Chicka Boom, showing great listening skills and enthusiasm.

Have a lovely weekend!
