We have had a lovely week of learning in Reception, filled with imagination, exploration and big ideas.

Our Drawing Club story this week was Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy, which the children absolutely loved. They enjoyed following Baby Bear on his space adventure and were full of excitement as he zoomed to the moon in his cardboard box rocket. The story inspired lots of thoughtful discussion, creative drawings and wonderful storytelling, with the children adding their own imaginative ideas about journeys to space and what Baby Bear might see along the way.

Linking to our story, we explored space and the solar system, learning simple facts about the moon, the stars and the planets. The children were particularly fascinated by thinking about Earth and why it is so special. As part of our RE learning, we talked about the creation of our wonderful Earth according to Christianity, reflecting on how the world was made and why we should take care of it. The children shared thoughtful ideas and showed great curiosity during our discussions.

In maths, we focused on shapes, exploring how they can be manipulated and rotated. The children enjoyed turning shapes around to see how they changed and discovering that shapes still remain the same even when they are moved or turned. We also worked on composing shapes, combining smaller shapes to make new ones. There was lots of problem solving and teamwork as the children experimented with different ways to build pictures, objects and patterns using shapes.

During Forest School, we learned about butterflies, linking this to the chrysalis in our classroom. We are eagerly waiting for butterflies to emerge - hopefully we will have news next week! The children enjoyed creating their own nature artwork, representing butterflies with different natural materials.
Have a lovely weekend!
