We started the week with a damp trip to the forest where we learned about squirrels. The children pretended to be squirrels and hid their food around the forest – it was much harder to find it again than they anticipated!
This week the children have been introduced to our new topic ‘It’s cold outside!’ The children have enjoyed learning all about Emperor penguins. Our interest in penguins took us all the way to Antarctica! We learned fascinating facts about Emperor penguins, such as how they keep warm in the icy cold by huddling together. We also decided to make our own life-sized penguin and compared it to our own heights.
In maths, we dove deep into understanding the numbers 4 and 5. The children explored different ways to recognise and represent these numbers using cubes, fingers, and dots, and practised their subitising skills.
Our drawing club this week was reading Blue Penguin by author Petr Horacek. The children talked about what makes each penguin unique, just like them! The children talked about friendships in their class and used their imaginations to draw icy adventures for Blue Penguin. We also wore our odd socks to raise awareness for anti-bullying week; we celebrated our individuality and uniqueness.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Harris
