In Science this week, we've been observing the world around us and exploring the order of the seasons. We talked about how the weather and nature change throughout the year. We even made our very own seasons wheel to remember the sequence: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter

As history detectives, we took a trip down memory lane! We looked at old photographs and talked about what our local area used to be like a long time ago. We were fascinated to learn that our town once had different amenities, including a cinema where people watched films, a busy bank, and a train station connecting people to other places. It really made us think about how things have changed!

In Design & Technology, the children became inventors! We’ve been focusing on suitability and testing different materials to see what would best keep our hands warm in the chilly weather. We tested various products, discussing which ones might be best for making something new to keep our hands nice and toasty.

We’ve been absolutely hooked on our English book, Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers, which tells the lovely story of a boy and a penguin. It sparked some brilliant discussions about how we would travel to the South Pole if we were in the story! The children had great fun deciding what they would pack for such a big adventure—from warm coats and hats to snacks and maps!

In Maths, we’ve been working hard on our number skills, focusing on "finding a part." We've been using hands-on objects and number blocks to understand how a whole number can be made up of two smaller parts.

We have sent a letter home this week explaining that all of the Year 1 children are going to be shepherds this year. We kindly ask that you please send in a clean tea towel with your child's name clearly marked on it, which they will need for their shepherd's headpiece. Thank you so much for your help in making our play wonderful!
