13/6/25

Date: 13th Jun 2025 @ 3:35pm

After an exciting but tiring weekend at the Anderton Centre residential, the children returned to school feeling a little weary—but they didn’t let that stop them. They’ve shown real resilience and worked hard all week.

✉️ English
We’ve been busy planning our next piece of writing: a letter in role as Fred, the main character in The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. The children have thought carefully about his thoughts, feelings and experiences, and are now ready to begin writing their letters next week.

Maths
In Maths, we’ve continued our work on decimals, this time focusing on adding and subtracting decimals with different numbers of decimal places. It’s been a tricky topic, but the children have really risen to the challenge.

🌊 Geography
We’ve been learning about the Amazon Basin, exploring how the water from the surrounding areas all flows into the Amazon River. The children were fascinated by the scale of the river and its importance to the region.

🌸 Science
In Science, we’ve been learning about pollination, comparing insect pollination and wind pollination in plants. We discussed how different plants rely on different methods and the adaptations they have developed to support this process.

🏃 Sports Day
On Tuesday, we had our Sports Day, and what a brilliant display of team spirit and athleticism it was! From sprinting to archery, the children gave it their all and supported each other every step of the way.

Well done, Year 5, for pushing through a demanding week—you’ve done yourselves proud!
