We have had another fantastic week in Year 2 this week, with lots to blog about!

In Maths, we have continued to look at Time. We have explored minutes in an hour and hours in a day. It has been a tricky concept, but the children have worked really hard, and we will be moving on to our next maths unit next week.

In English, we have started our new text, 'Pugs of the Frozen North'. In Chapter 1, a cold, frosty winter came in the night causing the good ship 'Lucky Star' to freeze. Captain Jeggings, a selfish man, abandoned his ship and rescued himself leaving behind the cabin boy, Shen.
On board the 'Lucky Star' were also sixty-six pugs, which Captain Jeggings was hoping to sell for a good price. Shen couldn't possibly leave the poor dogs behind and made sure they all made it off the ship with him.
In Chapter 2, Shen crafts some stockings for the pugs to wear to keep them warm and sets off in search for help. In Chapter 3, Shen is relieved to find a young girl named Sika, who is more than willing to help him. Together, they find a sled that Sika's Grandpa had built and prepare to return to the pugs.

In Geography, we explored the physical features in Cape Town. Boulders Bay is a beach where the only penguins in Africa live and Table Top Mountain gets its name from its flat surface and table-like appearance. There are wild goats and monkeys and you can get a cable car to the top!

In DT, we did our first lesson on structures and mechanisms. We explored push and pull toys and then looked at everyday objects that have wheels and axles.

On Monday, we were very fortunate to have Wigan Music Services come into school and play some instruments from the string family. The music was spectacular and inspired a lot of our children, who may be interested in starting music lessons in KS2.

On Tuesday, we had Sports Day! We were very fortunate with the weather and we had a brilliant day! The children cheered and supported each other and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all the events. It was so lovely to see so many of our parents attend the family picnic and take part in the parents race!

On Friday, we performed our Father's Day Assembly. The children have been rehearsing and practising for a couple of weeks, and it was so lovely to see it all come together. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
