We’ve had a busy and exciting end to our Spring 1 term!
This week in English, we finished reading Baker’s Boy, and the children really impressed us with their thoughtful discussions. We created a synonym wheel to explore a range of vocabulary, and the class used some of these words to plot emotions on an emotions graph, helping them to think about how the characters felt at different parts of the story. The children also developed their descriptive writing skills by creating expanded noun phrases, which they then used brilliantly when writing a recount in the role of Will.
In Maths, we continued building our number confidence by practising doubling and halving, and identifying odd and even numbers. We also worked on dividing by 2, using a range of different methods. After half term, we will continue with our multiplication and division unit.
Our History lessons this week focused on Samuel Pepys and why he is such a significant individual. The children explored extracts from his diary, using clues to think about what he could see, hear, and feel during the events he described.
At the beginning of the week, the children completed their DT project—making their very own cakes! They measured, mixed, baked and, of course, tasted their creations before writing thoughtful evaluations.
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a wonderful visit to Standish Library. The children were thrilled to meet author Sean Perkins, who shared his book Oscar and Ben – The Sleepover. We then had lots of fun singing along to his catchy songs. It was a brilliant visit that helped to inspire a love of reading.
This week we also marked Children’s Mental Health Week, exploring the theme “This is my place”. The children spent time thinking about what matters most to them and created beautiful drawings of their own special place—somewhere they feel happy, safe, and calm.
Well done to all the children for their hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity this term. We hope you all have a well‑deserved, restful half term break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back, ready for more learning adventures!
Have a lovely half term!
