This week we explored the story The Great Race, which tells the story of the Chinese zodiac. The children enjoyed creating new challenges for the animals to complete and adding new animals to the race.

In music, the children have been composing their own simple melodies to accompany the story using glockenspiels. They experimented with different sounds, patterns, and rhythms to represent the different animals using a pentatonic scale.

We have been learning a ‘dragon dance’ song which has inspired lots of dragon crafts – I have been very impressed by the children’s ability to develop their designs in creative ways – their paper folding skills have been particularly impressive this week! games to help the children recognise doubles confidently and we looked at combining two groups to make 8. The children were introduced to length and enjoyed comparing objects, using vocabulary longer and shorter, and beginning to measure using non-standard units.

In PE, we have been practising underarm throwing, focusing on control, accuracy, and using the correct technique.

We ended the week with our own dragon parade where the children enjoyed showcasing their artistic and musical talents.

It is hard to believe that we are half way through the year already.

Have a wonderful half term.
