Year 6 have had another successful and productive week of learning – they continue to impress us with their focus and enthusiasm.
In Geography, we brought our fieldwork project to a close by answering our enquiry question, using the data we collected last week. We also began exploring the processes of deposition, transportation and erosion, deepening our understanding of how rivers shape the landscape.
In English, we read the first four chapters of Kensuke’s Kingdom. Alongside enjoying the story, we explored different types of questions, tracked Michael’s feelings at key points in the opening chapters, and began looking closely at how Michael Morpurgo uses setting description to build atmosphere.
In Maths, we continued our place value unit, moving on to number lines, comparing integers, rounding and even tackling negative numbers. The children showed great resilience and growing confidence as the challenges increased.
In Science, we looked in depth at Carl Linnaeus’ system of taxonomy and learned how his way of classifying living things is still used by scientists today.
In Design and Technology, we investigated the main components of a truck, discussing the role and importance of each part – a great foundation for the project ahead.
The children loved their Forest Schools session today! See some pictures below.
It’s been another busy but brilliant week in Year 6. The children are working hard, supporting one another, and showing excellent attitudes to their learning. Well done, Year 6!
