Year 3 have had a wonderful first full week of learning, and it has been packed with exciting new experiences across the curriculum. The children have worked incredibly hard and shown great enthusiasm in every lesson.

In Geography, we completed our fieldwork investigation into rainfall around the school grounds. After collecting and analysing our data, we discovered that the front of the school received the most rainfall, whilst the trees at the back of the school received the least. Using these findings, the children thoughtfully suggested ways to improve different areas of the school environment. Some excellent ideas included placing bug hotels in the more sheltered areas and creating vegetable patches in locations that receive more rainfall. We were very impressed by their geographical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We also began our new Geography topic on Agriculture. The children learned the definition of agriculture and explored the differences between arable farming, pastoral farming, and mixed farming. They enjoyed finding out where our food comes from and how different types of farming support our daily lives.

In Science, we identified the different parts of a plant and learned about the important role each part plays in keeping a plant alive. We discussed roots, stems, leaves and flowers, and how they work together to help plants grow and survive.

Our Spanish lessons have been full of excitement this week. The children developed their pronunciation of Spanish vowels and used this knowledge to confidently read a series of greetings and numbers. They have embraced learning a new language and are already looking forward to building on these skills in future lessons.

In PSHE, we revisited the British Values and spent time discussing what each value means in our everyday lives. The children reflected on how they can demonstrate these values both at school and at home through their actions, choices and interactions with others.

In Art, we researched the famous designer and artist William Morris. The children created fantastic double-page spreads to showcase their research and used floral patterned wallpaper as inspiration when exploring Morris's distinctive style. Their creativity and presentation skills were truly impressive.

In English, we began planning a diary entry from the perspective of Agatha, the main character in our class text. The children generated imaginative ideas, explored how Agatha might be feeling and planned how to bring her character to life through their writing. We cannot wait to read their creative diary entries next week!

Just a quick reminder that our Forest School starts on Friday. Children can come to school in the Forest School clothing, but please wear school shoes. We will change into the appropriate Forest School footwear before going down. When we return, before dinner time, the children will change back into their uniform for their afternoon lessons.

It has been a brilliant start to the term, and the children should be very proud of all they have achieved already. We are looking forward to another exciting week of learning, discovery and creativity in Year 3. Well done, everyone!
