Another great week in Year 6! The children have continued their excellent start to the school year and have been working hard across the curriculum.
In Maths, we have continued with our work on number and place value. This week, the children have been comparing and ordering integers, rounding numbers, exploring powers of 10 and developing their understanding of number lines. They have worked hard to apply their place value knowledge to increasingly challenging problems.
In English, we have continued reading Kensuke’s Kingdom and things have certainly become more dramatic for Michael! After being thrown overboard, Michael has found himself stranded on a mysterious island. We have started to think carefully about the island setting, gathering vocabulary, ideas and grammatical features that we can use to describe it effectively. This will all help us when we write our own setting descriptions next week.
In Geography, we have continued our learning about coasts, with a particular focus on coastal habitats and how beaches are formed. The children have started to explore the different processes that shape our coastline and create the coastal environments we see today.
We have also begun our first D.T. unit of the year. The children have been learning about the different components of a vehicle and how they work together. This knowledge will be particularly important over the next few weeks as we work towards designing and making our own moving vehicles.
The children have also enjoyed getting back into Music and R.E. this week, as well as beginning to understand what it takes to be a successful play leader. Mr Carr and Mr Speakman have taught the children a range of games and activities that they will be able to use when working with and supporting younger children on the playground.
It has been another fantastic week, and it has been great to see the positive start to Year 6 continue. The children are settling into the routines and expectations brilliantly and continue to be excellent role models around school.
Have a lovely weekend!
