What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 2!
In English, we have continued to read ‘Katie in London’. The children enjoyed hearing about how the lion felt going on the London Eye. Our writing focus was a setting description, based on the scene where Katie, her brother Jack, and the lion joined the parade in front of Buckingham Palace. The children worked hard to include verbs and expanded noun phrases. We were very impressed with the pieces of writing that they produced!
In Maths, we’ve been continuing with our topic on addition and subtraction. We have used our number bonds to help us add three one-digit numbers. We have also been using our number bonds to 100 and adding 1s. We will continue with our addition and subtraction topic next week.
Our History lessons have taken us back in time as we began learning about Queen Victoria. We discovered how long she was Queen for and how old she was when she came to the throne. The children were fascinated by the different inventions that happened during Queen Victoria’s time on the throne. We also found out about her family life. Next week, we’ll be comparing Queen Victoria with Queen Elizabeth II.
In Computing, we’ve been exploring the Information Technology (IT) we use in school. From interactive whiteboards to laptops and tablets, the children have been learning to identify different types of technology and talk about how we use them in our everyday school life.
In DT, we have chosen which bag we want to make and which fastening we would like to use. We are looking forward to making them next week.
As part of our PSHE learning, we came together to create our class charter. The children thought carefully about the values and behaviours we want to uphold in our classroom. It was lovely to see such thoughtful and respectful contributions from everyone.
We embraced the autumn weather during Forest School this week and created some beautiful autumn mobiles. The children collected natural materials and used them to create hanging decorations – they showed brilliant teamwork and creativity.
We have been wearing yellow today and have been thinking about our emotions and well-being. We also considered what makes us unique.
Have a lovely weekend!
