What a wonderful week of learning we have had in Year 1!
English
This week, Professor Klunk sent us Angelica Sprocket's Pockets by Quentin Blake to read. We had lots of fun discovering all the amazing and unusual things Angelica keeps hidden in the pockets of her overcoat! Inspired by the story, we have been working very hard on our sentence writing, focusing on clear presentation and correct letter formation. We are so proud of the progress we are making.
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about part-whole models and using them to help us write number sentences with the plus (+) and equals (=) symbols. We have also started exploring number bonds within 10 and have enjoyed finding different ways to make a number.
Science
This week we became arborists as we continued our learning about the seasons. We looked closely at the changes plants and trees undergo during autumn and discussed why these changes happen. During our Forest School session, we enjoyed searching for signs of autumn and found lots of beautifully coloured leaves.
Geography
We took on the role of cartographers this week and studied a map of Standish. We matched map symbols to the human and physical features we could find around the local area. We also planned our upcoming fieldwork walk, where we will explore Standish and look for features we have already identified on the map.
PE
In PE, we have been developing our throwing and catching skills. We worked hard on improving our accuracy and learnt how to "trick" our opponents by making them think we were throwing in a different direction!
Art
This week we explored the work of Wassily Kandinsky and looked closely at his famous artwork Concentric Circles. We used Kandinsky's colourful masterpiece as inspiration and began planning our own versions.
Computing
In Computing, we continued to develop our typing skills by using the keyboard to add text to a document in Paintz. We also learnt how to save our work independently, an important skill for all budding computer users!
We are very proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm and creativity shown by the children this week. We can't wait for another exciting week of learning ahead!
