Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are ready for an exciting new term. The children have settled back into school brilliantly and have already been busy learning across lots of different subjects.
This week in Maths, we have been exploring money. The children have been learning the value of different coins and notes, and they’ve started adding amounts that include both pounds and pence. It’s been great to see them using their problem-solving skills!
In English, we’ve started our new text, The Baker’s Boy and The Great Fire of London. The children made predictions about the story by looking closely at the front cover and title. We also discussed how the characters might have felt as the fire began to spread. We’re looking forward to reading more next week.
In DT, our new topic is all about food! This week, we identified healthy and unhealthy foods and talked about making good choices. This will help us later when we design and make our final product—a cake fit for King Charles III’s banquet!
During our Geography lesson, we’ve been thinking about what it’s like to live in a city. The children explored the advantages and disadvantages of city life as they prepare to decide whether they would like to live in London or not.
In PSHE, our focus has been on money—where it comes from and the different jobs people do to earn it. The children had some fantastic ideas about careers they might like in the future!
During our Computing session, we’ve been learning how to spot real and fake images online. The children looked closely at pictures to find clues that helped them decide if they were genuine or not—a great start to understanding digital safety.
In Music, we’ve started learning the song London’s Burning and next week the children will be introduced to the different parts of a recorder.
This week’s homework is the learning postcard. Please do not stick this into your homework book as these will be added to your child’s Science book.
Have a great weekend!
