This week in Year 2 we have been working hard and having lots of fun across all our subjects!
In English, we have been writing instructions on How to care for a Dragon. The children loved thinking about all the things a dragon needs to be happy and healthy. They carefully chose imperative verbs such as feed, clean, and protect to start their instructions and learned how clear steps help the reader understand what to do.In Maths, we have been finding the whole and exploring unit fractions and non‑unit fractions. The children used practical resources and pictures to help them understand how parts make up a whole and showed great confidence when talking about fractions. In Art, the children analysed a piece of artwork by Pablo Picasso called The Weeping Woman. They noticed the bright colours and bold outlines used in the painting and were able to identify cubist features, such as shapes and different viewpoints. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how the artwork made them feel.In Geography, we have been learning about the rainfall in Cape Town and have been comparing it to the rainfall in London. The children looked closely at data and were able to say which months were the wettest and driest months in each city. They enjoyed spotting similarities and differences between the two locations.
In Spelling, we focused on adding ‘‑ing’ to verbs. The children practised changing words and talked about spelling rule.
In PSHE, we have been talking about what makes our families special. The children shared their ideas respectfully and celebrated the many different types of families we have in our class.
Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic week of learning!
