This week in Reception, the children have been building on their maths skills by adding two numbers together within 10, before moving on to taking away within 10. They have enjoyed using practical resources and talking through their thinking as their confidence has grown.

In Drawing Club, we shared the story A Worm Called Wallace by Jamie Rose. The children loved following Wallace on his adventures underground and were particularly interested in how worms move, where they live and why they are so important for the soil. The story links closely to our learning about worms, prompting lots of discussion, questions and imaginative ideas. The children used the illustrations and story events to inspire their own drawings, adding details and explaining their thinking as they drew.

During Forest School, the children worked together to make their very own bug hotel. This was a hands-on and exciting activity that encouraged teamwork, creativity and care for our natural environment.

In phonics, we have learned the sound ‘th’ and have been building and reading words containing this sound. We have also continued to practise the ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ sounds, helping to strengthen the children’s confidence in blending and reading words.

We also had a visit from the staff at Rainbow ward and they told us all about how important the ward is.

It has been another busy and enjoyable week full of learning and exploration!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Dyson and Miss Southway
