🌟 Another Fantastic Week in Year 1! 🌟
We’ve come to the end of another wonderful week in Year 1, and the children have all worked so hard! I am incredibly proud of their effort, enthusiasm, and brilliant learning across the curriculum.
📚 English
In English, the children have been thinking about what the animals might tell their family members about their exciting adventure with Emma Jane. They wrote fantastic first-person recounts of Emma Jane’s Aeroplane in role as Emma Jane, using 'I' to help their writing sound like Emma Jane had really written the recount.
We also learned all about question marks in grammar - why we use them and how to put them at the end of a question. The children will have a go at writing their own questions next week!
🔢 Maths
In Maths, we have been learning all about grouping. For example, we looked at 5 groups of counters and discussed how many counters were in each group and then how many counters there were altogether. We also explored sharing by practising how to share objects equally into groups. The children are getting really good at checking that each group has the same amount - super teamwork and careful counting!
💛 PSHE
In PSHE, we had some lovely discussions about families. We talked about how families can be different for everyone, and thought about what families do for each other, such as helping, caring, listening, and spending time together.
🔬 Science
In Science, we investigated objects made from more than one material. The children enjoyed identifying which materials different objects could be made from, e.g. a house may be made from brick, glass and wood.
💻 Computing
In Computing, we have been learning how to use capital letters in our typing using the Caps Lock key. We also explored different keys and their jobs, including:
- Spacebar (to add a space)
- Backspace (to delete)
- Return/Enter (to move down a line)
The children did a brilliant job practising their keyboard skills and learning the correct names for the keys.
🕉️ RE (with Mrs Johns)
In RE, the children learned about the Hindu god Brahman and the Hindu belief that Brahman can be seen in many forms and many ways. We also found out what a murti (a Hindu statue) is, and how it is made special through an important ceremony.
✂️DT
In DT, we have been busy making our own Gingerbread Man sliders! The children loved creating their moving designs and were very excited to see their finished sliders work.
✨ Well done, Year 1! ✨
You have all worked so hard this week - keep up the fantastic effort. I'm really proud of you and can’t wait for more exciting learning next week!
