We hope you had a lovely half term break and enjoyed some well-deserved rest. It’s been fantastic to see the children return with such enthusiasm.

In English, we’ve started reading our new text, Queen Victoria’s Bathing Machine. The children were intrigued by the story, and we had some great discussions about why Queen Victoria wanted to go for a swim. We also learnt about Prince Albert and explored new vocabulary from the book.

In Art, our focus artist this half term is Stephen Wiltshire. We’ve been learning about his early life and the incredible techniques he uses to draw detailed cityscapes from memory. The children were amazed by his talent and used this inspiration to create an “artist on a page” in their sketchbooks.

During our Maths lessons, we’ve been working hard on adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, especially when exchanging is involved. The children have shown great perseverance and are developing their confidence with this. We’ll continue to build on this over the next few weeks.

This week, in Geography, we revisited some of our Year 1 learning, focusing on naming and locating the continents and oceans. We also looked at the countries of the UK and their capital cities.

In Computing, we’ve started our new topic on digital photography. We discussed what makes a good photograph and talked about the importance of asking for someone’s consent before taking their picture. The children were thoughtful and respectful, and we’re excited to start taking and editing photos in the coming weeks.

This afternoon in the forest, we have been on a mini-beast hunt! We had a great time exploring and looking for different mini beasts in their micro-habitats.

Thank you for your continued support. It’s been a wonderful start to the half term and we’re looking forward to all the exciting learning ahead.

Have a lovely weekend!
