It's been a busy and exciting week in Year 1! We've been exploring new stories, getting creative, and learning lots of new skills across different subjects. Here's a peek at what we've been up to:
We had a brilliant computing lesson this week using a new program called Paintz. The children were fantastic at exploring all the different tools! They experimented with brushes, colours, and shapes before applying their new skills to draw their very own self-portraits. It was wonderful to see their digital creativity shine and how quickly they adapted to using the painting tools.
In Maths, we've been concentrating on adding together. We used lots of practical resources like counters and ten frames to help us combine groups and find the total. The children are getting really good at understanding how addition works and are becoming more confident in solving simple number sentences!
We are thrilled to have started our new text in English: 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. The children are already captivated by the story of the boy and the penguin. We've been making predictions, discussing the characters' feelings, and can't wait to see where their adventure takes us!
We had another wonderful session in our Forest School. The children loved being outdoors, exploring nature, and working together on various challenges. They were building dens, and enjoying the fresh air. It's a fantastic way for them to develop teamwork and problem-solving skills in a natural environment.
Our new DT project has begun! We discussed different ways to keep warm, and the children have started designing something to keep their hands warm. We are exploring various materials and thinking about what makes a design effective. They have some brilliant ideas, and we can't wait to see their final creations!
In Science, we are learning all about the seasons. We've been observing changes in the weather and nature around us, discussing what makes each season unique, and how it affects our environment.
In History, we are diving into the past and present of Standish. The children have been looking at old photographs and comparing them to what our local area looks like today. It's fascinating to see how things have changed over time!
It's been a jam-packed week full of learning and laughter. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
