The children have had their Balancability sessions this week, which they all thoroughly enjoyed! The balance bikes support the development of gross motor skills and coordination and through guided activities the children practised gliding, steering, and maintaining control of their bikes.
In maths, our focus has been on recognising circles and triangles. The children explored where these shapes appear in everyday life—such as wheels, clocks, roofs, and signs—and learned how to describe their properties and practised comparing the shapes by discussing sides, curves and vertices.
Our Drawing Club sessions this week were inspired by the poem Fireworks! by Greg Bottrill. The children explored the rich language and imagery of the poem, using it as a stimulus for expressive drawing and ideas which also continued into the craft area in the classroom. The children participated in a range of fireworks-themed craft activities using paint, glitter, and pastels, creating artwork that has captured the excitement and colour of Bonfire Night.
The children have also been learning about the significance of Bonfire Night in the UK, including the historical context of the Gunpowder Plot and how the event is celebrated today.
In forest school, the children enjoyed learning how to safely build a fire and had great fun eating toasted marshmallows and toffee apples!
Have a lovely weekend.
Warm regards,
Reception Team
