Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely half term.
This week, in English we finished reading 'The Boy Who Grew Dragons'. Tomas and his friends had a sleepover in Grandads garden and waited in hope that dragons would hatch from the dragon fruit! During the night, the ruby red, spiky fruit burst open, spraying the children with a fruity pulp and POP a dragon was born! The children have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I hope they will continue to read the rest of the books in the series.
In Maths, we have been looking at Time. We have explored o' clock and half past and then we looked at past and to the hour. It would be really helpful if the children could have as much exposure to time as possible as it is a tricky concept and requires lots of practice.
In Science, we wrote up the results of our cress experiment. We found out that the cress on the window sill survived because it had sunlight, water and clean air. The cress in the cupboard did not grow because it was deprived of sunlight, water and clean air.
In Geography, we explored some of the Human Features in Cape Town. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is the most visited destination in Africa. It has hotels and restaurants and a wheel similar to the London Eye! City Hall is modelled on Big Ben; people can go and listen to a live orchestra there and the building is made from limestone. Two Oceans Aquarium gets its name from its location, which is where the Indian and Atlantic Ocean meet. If you visit, you can see sharks, seals, penguins and tropical fish!
In PSHE, we started a new topic - Healthy Me. We talked about what it means to have a healthy lifestyle and what foods are good for us. We completed an 'Eat Well' activity and put the foods into the different categories.
The children who attended our pizza and film night on Tuesday had a fantastic time! We can't wait for the next one!
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Hunter
