What a brilliant week we’ve had in Reception! The children have been busy exploring stories, numbers, nature, and all things castles and dragons.
In Drawing Club, we shared the wonderful story Where Is the Dragon? by Leo Timmers. The children loved joining the knights on their funny, slightly chaotic quest to find the dragon. Inspired by the illustrations, they created their own imaginative drawings and enjoyed talking about the different creatures in the story.
In Maths, we continued deepening our understanding of numbers to 10. The children explored comparing numbers to 10, representing 9 and 10 in different ways, and developing their conceptual subitising skills by spotting smaller numbers within bigger groups. Their growing confidence has been lovely to see.
Our castles and dragons’ theme has continued with lots of excitement. The children learnt about coat of arms and discussed which colours and symbols might represent our class. Together, we designed a class coat of arms, and the children also created their own personal versions. They studied dragons closely and used their ideas to design and label their very own dragons, full of imaginative details.
We also had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day. The children enjoyed sharing stories, taking part in reading activities, including a nuresery rhyme treasure hunt outside and celebrating the joy of books.
At Forest School, we headed outside to look for the first signs of spring. The children hunted for buds, shoots, and early flowers, and enjoyed noticing the small changes happening around us.
It has been a full, fun, and creative week in Reception. We’re so proud of the children for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and kindness. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Dyson and Mrs Powell
