What a brilliant week we’ve had in Year 1! The children have been busy learning, exploring, and having lots of fun along the way.

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! The children looked wonderful in their costumes, and we loved sharing our favourite stories together. It was lovely to see how excited everyone was about books and reading. We enjoyed activities linked to our stories and spent time talking about why reading is so special.

In maths, we’ve been working hard on our number lines up to 50. The children practised estimating where numbers should go and checked how close their guesses were. They showed great thinking skills and growing confidence in placing numbers accurately.

We continued our work on ‘The Rabbit Problem’, thinking carefully about the characters, the setting, and what might happen next. The children have enjoyed exploring the story and developing their writing skills through retelling and creative thinking.

Our geography lessons took us all around the UK by sea! The children learned about the four seas that surround us and practised naming and locating them on a map. They did a great job remembering the North Sea, Irish Sea, English Channel, and Atlantic Ocean.

In science, we explored wild and garden flowers. The children learned how to spot the differences and enjoyed identifying some common flowers they might see around school or on walks. Their curiosity and careful observations were wonderful to see.

This week in art, we focused on developing pencil control and experimented with different tones. The children practised shading lightly and heavily, creating texture, and using their pencils in new ways. They are becoming very confident young artists!

In PSHE, we talked about money and the different things we can spend it on. The children discussed needs and wants, shared their ideas, and thought about making sensible choices. Lots of thoughtful conversations took place!

This week’s homework is Numbots. Please log in and play. Little and often makes a big difference!
