What a lovely week it has been in Reception! The children have thrown themselves into their learning with enthusiasm, curiosity, and plenty of imagination. Here’s a look at what we’ve been exploring together.
In Drawing Club, we stepped into the magical world of The Magic Paintbrush. The children were absolutely fascinated by the idea of a brush that could bring anything to life. They enjoyed discussing the story, learning new vocabulary, and creating their own imaginative drawings inspired by the tale.
Our focus in Maths was on doubles. The children explored what doubles are through hands‑on activities and lots of playful learning. They enjoyed building doubles with objects, spotting them in everyday situations, and beginning to recall simple doubles facts. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they started to apply their understanding more independently. The children also enjoyed being introduced to the magic doubling box!
This week we also introduced the children to Chinese New Year. They learned about the story of the Zodiac animals and were excited to discover how people around the world celebrate this vibrant festival. The children explored traditional music, looked closely at Chinese symbols, and enjoyed having a go at some themed mark‑making and craft. They were particularly captivated by the colourful traditions and celebrations.
In PE, we continued to refine our movement skills by focusing on different travelling techniques. They practised changing speed, direction, and level while navigating space safely. Their confidence and coordination are really starting to shine through.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Dyson and Miss Southway
