Welcome Back, Year 6!

It has been fantastic to welcome our Year 6 pupils back to school this week – and what a brilliant start they have made! The children have settled into their new routines with maturity and enthusiasm, showing us already that they are ready to take on the challenges of their final year at Wood Fold.

It has certainly been a busy first week. In maths, we launched our place value unit and have been exploring numbers all the way up to 10,000,000. The children have impressed us with their focus and determination in tackling these big numbers.
In English, we began reading our new class novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have read the opening chapter together and are already hooked, looking forward to discovering more about Michael’s adventure.

Geography has been hands-on with our fieldwork week. Armed with our homemade anemometers and Micro:bits, the children investigated wind speed in different locations around the school grounds. Our mission was to find the best spot for a new reading bench – a perfect example of geography in action!

In science, we started our new topic by learning about Carl Linnaeus, a fascinating scientist whose work in classification has shaped how we understand the natural world today. The children enjoyed finding out about his life and achievements.

To finish the week, we spent time reflecting on our British Values. We also took part in our first R Time session, building positive relationships across the class, and explored how to keep a healthy media balance in our Digital Citizenship learning.

All in all, it has been a fantastic start. Well done, Year 6 – keep up the brilliant work!
