In Drawing Club, we thoroughly enjoyed reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by David and Ronda Armitage. The children loved the characters Mr and Mrs Grinling and were especially amused by the pesky seagulls who kept stealing the lunch! We spent time talking about the story, thinking about how the characters might be feeling and what we would do if we were in their position. The children produced some wonderful drawings and were full of imaginative ideas, from creating their own clever ways to stop the seagulls to inventing new celebratory lunches for Mr Grinling.
In maths, we have been focusing on sharing and grouping. The children have been using practical resources to help them understand how to share amounts equally between groups and how to make groups of a given number. We’ve worked on recognising when groups are equal and when they are not, and the children have enjoyed solving problems together using small world animals, counters and everyday objects.
Our new history topic has centred around lighthouses, which linked beautifully with our Drawing Club story. The children have been learning about what lighthouses are, why they are important and how they help to keep boats and people safe at sea.
As part of our learning about the world around us, we have also been spotting the signs of summer. The children noticed changes such as warmer weather, brighter sunshine, blooming flowers and more insects outdoors. We talked about how the season is changing and what we might see, hear and feel during summertime.
A real highlight of the week has been completing our 5k run for Rainbow Ward. The children have shown fantastic determination and enthusiasm throughout, and today marked our final run. To celebrate, the children proudly wore their bright tie-dye t-shirts, which they created themselves. It was a joyful and colourful finish, and we are so proud of them for their effort and perseverance in such a wonderful cause.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a lovely weekend!
