Welcome back after half term! The children have settled back in wonderfully and have been working very hard across all areas of learning.
In Science, the children wrote up the evaluation for their recent experiment about what plants need to grow well. They discovered that the plant placed on the windowsill, with both water and sunlight, grew successfully. In contrast, the plant kept in the cupboard without sunlight did not grow well. The children did a fantastic job explaining their results.
In English, we enjoyed reading The Dragon Who Ate Our School. The children enthusiastically chanted the poem and created actions for the repeating verse. We also explored the pattern of the poem and discussed new vocabulary, including words such as wingspan, cycle shed, and defeat.
In Art, the children reflected on their artwork by writing evaluations. They thought carefully about what worked well and what they could improve next time.
In Spelling, we have been learning how to add -s or -es to words to make them plural, depending on how the word ends. The children have been practising applying this rule in their writing.
In Maths, we have continued our work on time. The children have been learning to tell the time to the hour and in five-minute intervals. Well done for their hard work with this tricky skill!
In Geography, we have been writing our answers to our enquiry question: What are the similarities and differences between Cape Town and London? The children used their knowledge of weather, location, and human and physical features to write a detailed response. They worked very hard to explain their ideas clearly and thoughtfully.
In Personal Development, the children learnt about what humans need to survive, including healthy food, water, and exercise. They enjoyed discussing how to keep their bodies healthy and why these things are important.
In Music, the children worked in small groups to create a short melody using stylistic features of South African music. They used their voices, body percussion, and call and response to perform their ideas. The children showed great teamwork and creativity during this activity.
We had a fantastic start to the week with our trip to RHS Bridgewater. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the gardens and looking at all the different plants. They learnt more about where the food we eat comes from and the importance of caring for plants. We also planted our own beans – we are very excited to observe how they grow over the coming weeks!
We are very proud of all the children’s efforts and look forward to another fantastic half term ahead.
