Year 1 Weekly Blog

This week in Year 1, we have been busy with lots of exciting learning!

In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction. The children have been using words such as left, right, forwards, backwards and turn to describe movement. They have enjoyed giving and following directions in practical activities.

In English, we started our new class text, Katie Morag Delivers the Mail. We have explored what the story is about and have been thinking about Katie Morag as a character. The children shared their ideas about her personality and what makes her special.

In Geography, we began our new topic all about the seaside. We looked at where Blackpool is on a map and used simple directions to describe its location.

In Art, we have started learning about our new artist, Jo Atherton. We are looking forward to exploring her style and creating our own artwork inspired by her.

In Computing, the children had an introduction to ScratchJr. They learned how to create simple animations and enjoyed exploring how to make characters move.

In PSHE, our focus has been on ‘Healthy Me’. We talked about what it means to be healthy and discussed ways we can look after our bodies and minds.

Homework

Your child’s Sounds Write homework has been stuck into their books this week.
