🌟What a fantastic start to the new school year! The children have settled wonderfully into Year 2 and have all had an excellent first week. We are so proud of how quickly they have adapted to new routines, shown enthusiasm for learning and demonstrated positive attitudes in everything they have done.

🌎 In Geography, we enjoyed an exciting fieldwork trip to the doctors' surgery as part of our study of how the High Street in Standish is used. During our visit, we observed and collected information about the different ways people use the High Street. We discovered that more cars travel along the High Street than people walking, which led to some interesting discussions about transport and how our local area works.

✏️In English, we have started reading our new text, Paddington in London. The children have loved meeting Paddington Bear and finding out about his adventures. We have been using descriptive language to describe what Paddington looks like, thinking carefully about his famous blue coat, red hat and suitcase.

🧮 In Maths, we have begun our Place Value topic. We have been counting objects to 100 in tens, recognising groups of tens and identifying tens and ones within numbers.

🧵In DT, we have been thinking about a very important problem: how can Paddington get his marmalade sandwiches to London safely? We explored different types of bags, including backpacks and cross-body bags, and discussed the features of each design. The children thought carefully about which bag would be the most suitable for carrying Paddington's precious sandwiches without squashing them!

🌟We have had a wonderful first week together and cannot wait to see what the rest of the term brings. Well done, Year 2, for such a brilliant start!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Grimes 🌈
