We've had another busy week in Year 2 this week.
In English, we completed our class text 'Pugs of the Frozen North'. The children were thrilled when the characters came together to reach the Snow Father. The Snow Father accepted each person as a winner and they each got their wish. At the end of the book, it was very sad that Sika's Grandpa passed away, however it was a lovely moment when his bed floated up to the sky for one last adventure in the snow.
In Maths, we have been looking at 'Position and Direction'. We have introduced the words clockwise and anticlockwise and the children have been practicing their left and right.
In Science, we carried out an experiment to determine if materials can be changed. We collected a variety of materials and explored if they could be twisted, squashed, stretched or bent. We recorded our evidence into a table.
In History, we carried on with our 'Explorers' unit. This week, we looked at Matthew Henson, who was the first man to reach the North Pole. When Matthew Henson returned from the North Pole, no one believed that he had achieved this goal and Robert Peary got all the credit.
In DT, we completed our Moon Buggies! The children sawed the dowel to create an axle and then attached wooden wheels to the ends. They decorated their moon buggies with space themed pictures and put a flag of the United States of America in the top.
This week has also been a triumphant week for our KS2 Town Sports Team who won the Y5/Y6 Champions Award , the Y3/Y4 Champions Award and the Overall 2025 Champions Award. A huge well done to all of the children who were involved and to Mr Carr for maintaining his Town Sports Champions title!
This week has also been a busy week for Mrs Jones and Miss Grady, who have directed and choregraphed our KS2 Performance of Peter Pan. The show was a resounding success and we are so proud of all of the children who were involved.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Hunter
