We’ve had a busy and exciting week in Year 4!

In English, we have been focusing on writing detailed recounts from Jelly’s point of view as she marches towards the Great Choc Lot. The children have been working hard to sequence events in the correct order and include key features of a successful recount.

In Maths, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 using number lines to help us visualise our thinking. Our times tables focus has been the 9s again this week – we’ve been practising chanting both in and out of order to build confidence and fluency.

In Science, we completed our egg experiment and evaluated the results – the children absolutely loved this investigation! We were able to conclude that some drinks have a negative effect on our teeth whilst other drinks can strengthen our teeth.  We have also been learning about the diets of different animals and exploring how their teeth are specially designed for their needs. We have learned that carnivores have teeth called carnassial teeth.

In Geography, we have been consolidating our understanding of how chocolate is made – from bean to bar – while in DT, we carried out a mini experiment comparing the strength of back stitch and running stitch to help us decide which to use in our final designs.  We found it tricky to thread the needle and tie the knots but we persevered!

This week’s homework is a Carousel Quiz based on DT, spellings, and continuing to practise times tables as much as possible!

Have a lovely and restful weekend!
