It has been another good week in Year 6, with lots of hard work and exciting learning across the curriculum.
In Maths, we completed our unit on multiplication, solving a wide range of problems in different contexts. We then moved on to division, starting with short division by a one-digit number before progressing to dividing by two-digit numbers and applying these skills to problem-solving. The children have shown real determination in tackling these challenging methods.
In English, the children wrote detailed character descriptions of Kensuke from Kensuke’s Kingdom. They used a wide range of grammatical skills and descriptive techniques to capture both his appearance and personality – a fantastic piece of work to build on as we continue our novel study.
In Design and Technology, Year 6 worked in teams to build the chassis for their moving vehicles. They successfully applied the measuring, cutting and strengthening skills developed last week, showing both creativity and collaboration.
In Science, we looked at animal characteristics and began to think about how these can be used to classify animals into groups. This will help us as we move forward with our classification work.
During R Time, our discussions focused on bravery – we explored different types of bravery and reflected on when we might show these qualities in our own lives.
Our Forest School session was another highlight, with the children working together to build dens, practise knots and apply the outdoor skills they have been developing over the past few weeks.
In PSHE, we recapped democracy and then moved on to the important British Values of respect and tolerance. The children thought carefully about what these mean and how we can show them in our everyday lives.
In Geography, we were introduced to the Jurassic Coast. We explored its unique features and locations, and discussed what the area would have been like during prehistoric times.
Earlier in the week, we were delighted to welcome staff from Standish High School, who spoke to Year 6 about life at secondary school. They explained what pupils can expect – from lessons and trips to opportunities across the wider school – ahead of their upcoming open evening.
It has been another busy and successful week. Well done, Year 6 – enjoy your weekend!
