We have had a great week in Year 2 and have learnt lots of new things.
This week in English, we started reading our new book, Katie in London. We thought carefully about how the lion might have felt when he came alive after sitting on the stone in Trafalgar Square for so long. We used our imaginations to describe his thoughts and feelings. We also discussed how members of the public might have reacted as the lion bounded out of Trafalgar Square! Later in the story, Katie and her brother Jack visited the Crown Jewels, and we enjoyed thinking about what the lion might say to them at this point.
In History, we learned about Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. We discovered that her coronation took place in 1953, one year after the death of her father, King George VI. We found out that the ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey and lasted for three hours. It was fascinating to learn about this important event in British history.
In Science, we have been exploring what humans need to survive. We discussed the difference between a need and a want and thought carefully about examples of each. We all agreed that although a holiday is something we would really like, it is not something we need to survive!
In Maths, we have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also been developing our problem-solving skills by completing missing number problems and finding missing numbers on number lines.
In DT, the children evaluated their sewing skills and reflected on what they have learned so far. They also designed a bag by drawing and labelling its main parts.
Well done, Year 2, for another week of fantastic learning! We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
