Hi everyone,

Another busy and brilliant week in Year 6! Here's what we've been up to:

Maths:
This week, we’ve been tackling mean, median, and mode, learning how to find and interpret averages in different sets of data. After that, we moved into some exciting shape work, exploring 2D and 3D shapes and recapping our knowledge of angles. The children have impressed us with their quick thinking and problem-solving skills: great preparation as we head into SATs!

English:
In English, we’ve been diving deep into the grammar curriculum, covering everything from relative clauses and apostrophes to prepositions and beyond. We’ve also been getting stuck into poetry, exploring the ways authors use language to create mood and imagery. We read a range of poems including Journey of a RiverIf by Rudyard Kipling, and Firework Night. The children loved discussing the messages behind each poem and showed excellent understanding of the wide of themes within each piece.

We’ve also been learning more about Charles Darwin, exploring who he was and the huge impact of his discoveries. We’ve made great links between his real-life adventures and the events in our class novel, Darwin’s Dragons. It’s been fascinating to see how historical facts are woven into the fictional story!

Reminders:
  • Next Monday is a Bank Holiday so school will be closed.
  • After-school clubs will start next Tuesday...we’re looking forward to seeing lots of you there!
  • Just four more school days until SATs! We’re feeling excited and ready to show off all the amazing progress we've made. The hard work is paying off, keep it up, Year 6!
Have a brilliant long weekend!
