What a fantastic final week of the Spring term we have had in Year 2! The children have worked incredibly hard and demonstrated just how much progress they have made this term.

In Maths this week, we completed our work on measures. We ended the unit by exploring temperature, learning how to read temperatures accurately from a scale. The children enjoyed comparing different temperatures and using their problem‑solving skills to answer questions and explain their thinking.

In Art, we completed our final pieces inspired by Kurt Schwitters, linking our work to the Great Fire of London. The children were incredibly proud of the artwork they produced. After finishing, we completed an evaluation where the children reflected thoughtfully on:

  • What they liked
  • What they disliked
  • What they would change next time

As part of Women’s History Month, we also learned about the artist Hannah Höch, an important German Dada artist known for photomontage.
Some facts we learned about Hannah Höch included:

  • She was born in 1889 and is considered one of the founders of photomontage.
  • Her work often combined photographs, patterns, and text to create striking and imaginative images.

We then compared Höch and Schwitters using a double bubble activity, identifying similarities and differences in their styles and techniques.

Finally, the children created their own photomontages using animals and everyday objects. They absolutely loved exploring this creative style and had a wonderful time sharing their imaginative designs.

In English, we explored a variety of different shape poems, discussing how poets use both shape and language to bring ideas to life. The children then wrote their own fire‑shaped poems, using descriptive vocabulary to capture the movement, colour and sound of flames.

Today, we have completed our community project which involved working with Busy Bees. We spent time in the gardens planting new plants, trimming the grass and we went on a bug hunt.

As we finish for the Easter break, we want to say a huge thank you to all the children for their hard work, enthusiasm and resilience this term. A big thank you as well to parents and carers for your support—it makes such a difference.

Wishing you all a wonderful, restful Easter!
