KS1 Phonics and Reading

Our reading resources are taken from a wide variety of published schemes:

  • Oxford Reading Tree
  • Collins Big Cat
  • Project X

All of these schemes are colour banded to aid progression in reading skills.

Phonics

Teaching in phonics follows the Sounds Write Programme in Reception and Year 1 and the Read, Write Inc. Spelling Programme from Year 2.

Read, Write Inc. Spelling:

It is a stand-alone programme for children in Years 2 to Years 6 and has been specially created to meet the demands of the new National Curriculum. Read, Write Inc is a fast-paced, systematic spelling programme that is suitable for use in schools for pupils who have completed Read Write Inc. Phonics (or similar phonics programme).
